I'm not talking about MDs, PAs, NPs, RNs, DDS, or any of the other professions that people think of when they hear the term healthcare, but many of the lesser known / appreciated ones. I just do not understand how people like EMTs, CNAs, phlebotomists, medical assistants, scribes, caregivers, pharmacy technicians, nursing aides, dental assistants, veterinary technicians, Medical laboratory assistants and many others can be paid so little. Some of these pay better than others, but most of them make under $20 / hour and many of them even make under $15 / hour. Some can even make under $10 / hour. This wouldn't seems so bad, but you have to go to college to obtain many of these positions (but obviously not all of them) or so some sort of training classes. I know that some people that have these jobs are using it as a stepping stone so they can get PCE / HCE so they can go to Med school, PA school, Dental school etc, but for many people, that is the job they will have forever. The pay they receive is often only slightly higher (or even lower) than the custodians, which I don't believe is fair (although I have nothing against the custodians.
